it should be pointed out that this is also the basis of the expectation of ongoing security for encryption algorithms that are in use... if there is no acceleration from expected they are gonna be good for a few hundred years more yet

The last few dots in the first chart make it look (to me) as if were slowly approaching the flat part of a sigmoid, rather than getting steeper.
