I bought a new computer.

It's a Mac.

Mac is the worst option for a main workstation except for Windows (obviously) and Linux. Leaving me with....Mac.

I use Linux all day every day but always CLI only and inside VMs/containers that are always set up for specific purposes.

Really just not feeling like ever having to fight to make a webcam work in a zoom meeting or something yet so I just doubt Linux desktop is ever gonna be a thing for me.

Weird, I use Debian with X11 and never have any issues with webcams. I daily drive it, works for my office stuff. (It's on baremetal in a dell powerstation) 🤷 I never have any trouble until I start trying to use linux for Gaming or VR, or things like that. Office work, does the job.

Switched back to Linux has my daily driver 6-months ago as was getting pissed off with OSx. 10yrs ago it was a real battle; a few years ago a pita; now a legit better UX imo.

i just use fedora silverblue. its 2026 linux desktop just works. i switched because overall its a better experience.

In my case, Debian stable, install and forget, no issue for years, rock solid.

Mac is exponentially worse the windows. I understand this is a minority position but I can't for the life of me understand why anyone likes Mac OS over windows and I hate windows.

I will do the same, ditching windows for mac. Linux purely for a node, storage etc.

The only trouble I've had with webcams was on Windows. I guess I could try on Linux. I tested that the hardware worked before installing distros, and most often it all did. I like KDE, but Mint was the most reliable for what the others still found tricky (playing DVDs, letting me access system files...
