Anybody aware of any unique research on why music is such a transcendental thing?

It’s always bewildered me how it’s this thing that everybody connects with deeply without any work or thought. It has the same effect no matter where you are in your life’s journey. Like it’s hardwired into our being somehow.

I hope this makes sense. It’s hard for me to even articulate my question, which I guess further confirms what I’m asking.

I have a sense that it has something to do with math. Mathematics is the abstract scaffolding of the universe (at least in many peoples' view, including mine), and music is a way that people can really feel math, without the laborious process of learning all the rules and notation. Having gone a d...

It’s mathematical pattern recognition for our somatic/nervous system. Different tones/frequencies catalyse different endocrine system responses. For example, more or less cortisol or serotonin flow. This is why we often say we can “feel” the music. 😉

Music conveys emotion without words which I find very intersting on its own. Tesla keyed in on "energy, frequency and vibration" and music checks all those boxes. That's probably why good music is universally understood and cherished by humans.

Yeah this is very interesting. There are probably many different answers stemming from different philosophical perspectives. If I could offer one answer it would be that our nervous systems (and bodies in general) are highly sensitive to vibrational patterns. Music bypasses the rational mind and di...

Do you listen to Bach?

It must be connected to language. Its possible music evolved before language or they co evolved together. Like language it seems to be unique to humans.
