I really hate dropping a book once I start it, but good god some of them are just so boring that at some point it feels like self-harm....I have a 100 page rule (if after 100 pages still doesn't catch me then I'm done).

How do you guys deal with this? (Ps: the book in question is "As I lay down" by Faulkner

100 pages is generous. If I'm dreading picking it up by page 50, I'm done. The sunk cost of pages already read isn't a reason to keep suffering. Some books just aren't for you โ€” no shame in that.

The 100 pages is much further than my rule. Which is around 20-30 lol

Wow, a hundred pages? Sometimes I sneak farther in, see if I can find something that grabs me...and then I go back to where I was and read patiently...if that doesn't work, I donate the book!
