What is most interesting to me, is that they are both clear that, once everyone has enough to eat, it is relative poverty that destroys the government.

I.e. inequality itself is the problem. It is the disparity, that leads to imbalance.

If there is a large disparity, the poor will rapidly grow in number, as inequality inevitably feeds more inequality, and then you would have rule by the poor. Which would result in the rich purchasing the ruling elite or simply taking over the government and forming an oligarchy, Show more

I'm not quite convinced of this. Inequality, under a hard money standard, does indeed still leave the rich with more resources to use to productively generate profits. However, it also leaves them growing up with less natural motivation to work hard -- they're not "hungry." Even those who seek to ma...
