I sometimes get the feeling that most of my fellow citizens don't believe that the Jews are taking these Jewish texts literal.
Because they themselves have long since stopped taking the bible literally and today only see the bible as something objective.
Thus they make the mistake to think that, surely the Jew doesn't actually believe in these old Hebrew books.
