It is all about scale.
The classic example of a family is often better as a communist institution, the property is often shared, money is not used to interchange goods and services. Instead we use other means like you mentioned. For example if someone is not pulling their weight in the family they are shamed, or have some benefit withheld from them.
At scale though that isn’t possible, economic calculation is needed to coordinate our interactions and money is required for that.
