this is such a stupid design but I can't rip it out because the only halfway competent coworker keeps building stuff on top of it when I'm not looking (after I thought I'd migrated everything away from it)

I don't even think *he's* doing it, I think he's checked out, and is just trusting Claude. can't say I blame him.
