I like the fact that Graphene has a distress option to wipe your phone by putting in a different pin than the unlock pin.

However, you know what would be even cooler? A pin that unlocks the phone with a dummy/fake mode. Basically a plain mode that has "nothing to hide" but is otherwise useless.

Wiping your phone can get you into trouble these days (insane). But if you unlock a seemingly "clean" phone (no weird pics, no weird social media, no weird anything) nobody would know and you just carry on with your day.

Mate had a phone a long time ago, standard Android on loading but through secret key presses opened a secure private OS that was invisible to outsiders unaware of its existence.

I was thinking about this exact same thing. I kinda assumed they had it too.

If I remember correctly it doesn't wipe anything. It just securely deletes and writes over the encryption key. But yes, dummy mode would be a great feature.

That's the first thing I told them when the feature was released. It would be perfect if it booted into a pixel android (skin). You'd customize the mimic profile in some believable personal way and on the surface you'd be just an average boring NPC. Nothing to see, pass along.

This basically exists on Xiaomi phones. Second Space is a completely separate profile with its own PIN or fingerprint, plus its own apps and files, so entering one unlock code lands you in a clean, boring phone the other space never touches.

Wouldnt it then be pretty easy to look at available space on the filesystem which would reveal that it is running in dummy mode? 😮
