No one really asks me how I am and I don’t know if that’s because they think I’m fine because I’m really strong because they know I’ll tell them truths they aren’t emotionally prepared to hear, or because they don’t care.
Our hyper-individualized society shames us for having emotional reactions and support needs at all. It normally frames reaction as mental illness. Meanwhile many of us are so lonely, disassociated, and/or stunted we don’t want to face any of that because of the immense pain.
