Coup d’état in Poland?! 🇵🇱🚨

Many friends ask if everything is safe. Don’t get lured by the headlines - this is smaller than some foreign media make it sound. And instead of people protesting, we have political play 🙃

#Poland #Polska
🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱

Quick background:

• PiS spent 8 years politicizing the courts
• European courts found some judges were improperly appointed
• The government promised to roll the changes back
• The PiS-backed president blocked some new judges

Now a political judge got moved to sideline the Tribunal’s leadership. PiS screams “assault on democracy”, when it was them.

tl;dr PiS fucked up courts. This government is trying to fix it, but it’s impossible to do cleanly... and they’re politicians too. 🤨
