I’m going to really need some time to really flesh this out but there is something about how that fringe which had the benefit of remaining good times to build music was sensing what now much of the youth is feeling, i.e., then 5% of the youth was feeling the senselessness of war, the gasping/grasping beyond poverty-with parents distracted-but had the resources to throw themselves into music to build art on that pain. Today it’s the same ennui but much worse and substantially less base on which art can be built.
