That's roughly the same birthrate as China, but not sure that birthrate really means anything (for example, African nations are 5 to 6, doesn't make it a better place to live).
Birthrate isn't the same as the number of children per woman. It's lower, if the population lives longer, as there are more and more adults per newborn.
And, at any rate, my point was that my perception is off: Germany's birthrate is low and the majority of people aren't Catholic.
