IBD is up to 25-40 % faster now. You should really try it in Oct with Core 32 ;) A node costs nothing. Bitcoin core (or for you: Knots) is free. No idea what you are talking about here... Old noteboo...

ibd is faster on the newer versions compared to the older ones because the assumevalid bypasses validation for much of the spam of the last 3 years.

theres incremental improvements for assumevalid=0 across versions but insignificant to most hardware

assumevalid=0 is a tradeoff. It introduces some trust back into validation. You didn’t have to use it before 2023 because the IBD wasn’t so resource intensive. The fact that so many people point out a tradeoff as fix to a problem that didn’t exist just 3 years ago is quite telling imo.
