I have lived under the realization that people don’t care about other people because they are mostly focused on themselves.

What i have been discounting is there is a large asymmetrical opportunity given this fact. just by trying to care and help other people, you will be doing what the majority of people don’t do since they are too busy dealing with their own issues.

Once you have your shit figured out physically, mentally and financially, this seems like the thing you should spend time on to have large positive impact.

I suspect empathic people already do this naturally, but as an antisocial autist i had to come to this conclusion via logic.

It just so happens that helping others is the absolute best way to find happiness in life. Funny how that works.

True. Most people truly don’t have the excess capacity to meaningfully help others because they are so busy helping themselves.

Empathy has been so leveraged that it has been hard for naturally empathetic people to not become uber cynical. Even when I do try to help, I find I have to do some convincing that I don’t have another motive.

I agree basically and that's a problem with the FIAT slavery. On the other hand, if you wait till your life is completely solved, you'll never come to help others. Yes, it helps to have a safe background, but you must also be willing to sacrifice your self a bit for others, and then earn spiritual s...

I'm glad you've gotten there eventually even just through logic. There's a joke there about dudes spending a lifetime to "discover" empathy 😅
jaquesbody · 19w
That first para hits hard and true. Also like yourself, I've had to use logic and alot of introspection to work on my physical, mental and financial health (the later taking some time). I've felt like the flood gates are now opening, first for opportunities then time and then, to give back (at some ...

As much as you wanna help someone, some people don't deserve the help because they're not appreciative. This is the problem with nice people. We always get stepped on. So sometimes we just have let them burn.
Dave · 19w
Totally! It's a little counterintuitive. With an increasing population of desperate people, the opportunity is growing.

Depends what you're doing. I can tell you this isn't true in healthcare. Humans can only give so much before it negatively impacts them. I suffered from compassion fatigue recently and it was pretty awful. Things got better once I detached more. Too much empathy will dilute it to misery. Apathy prob...

its just a fact that some people have more to give than others i suppose

arrived at the same conclusion a while back. the saying people use "don't attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence", largely it just comes down to awareness. awareness of our own issues and perspectives, as well as others, being able to see the similarities, differences, and similar...

Helping others is great, but people don't realize that you don't even have to go out of your way to regularly uplift the lives of others. I guarantee you, if people applied this EXACT same logic to being in a really good mood. They'd see just how easy it is to instantly stand out from the crowd, a...

Many are busy putting out fires in their lives, they dont have time to think about bigger picture. Once their live gets more steady, maybe then. But some nevr have that time for long enough
linux dude · 19w
I don't think that's possible in social media, the front stage is the social media for your image and often times it needs to be a bit narcissistic to gain social capital.

What you said makes a lot of sense. I used to be used to going it alone, but an experience of a sea trip changed me. On the Yacht Brunch Cruise in Dubai, the open and cozy atmosphere makes one involuntarily want to chat with the person sitting next to them for a while and listen to their stories. Th...
