Hi Nostr

Any advice on buying a water filter?

My lady wants one but I’ve got no clue. Is there even a point to it?

It’s for use in Portugal

Activated charcoal followed by ion exchange resin. This way you'll remove fluoride and heavy metals, and organic substances like unfiltered pharmaceuticalls

I use brita filter with the jug because the water direct out the tap isn’t very nice. It’s expensive to have to replace the filters though. One last a month or so. You can generic replacements but not looked into it

A filter that fit to the drinking water supply can be very good and lot more convenient than constantly filling a jug with water. https://amzn.eu/d/7oZ7llw

Been down this road. To be concise, these improve taste only. If you want proper filtration go reverse osmosis.

Check the cartridges forward cost and compatibility. Likely they make the bulk of their money on the new filters, so you want to factor that in as an ongoing cost.

I went down that rabbit hole many years ago. If you really want to purify your water (not only form minerals), also from all the pesticides, PFAS, hormones etc... it's an investment...but a really good one...as good water is so important for your health. Of course you could in the meanwhile distill...

Any filtr with pure carbon cartridge filter is enough to strat with - for filtering tap water. I would recommend Berkey Filter. Simple use. One of the best filters out there.

Trying to just remove taste or filter anything specific? Short term, long term?

Not worth the effort. If you really want good water then glass bottle mineral is the only option.
Meridian · 103w
Carbon or sand filter, only. Most others damage the water in some way, either by removing vital minerals, altering its structure, or in the case of the fancy machines, contaminating it with metals like titanium. Also note that while some waters may be more pure, ie closer to 100% H2O, if they lack...

Highly recommend you get a reverse osmosis filter like Aquatru. Tap water is full of fluoride, endocrine disruptors, prescription drugs, glyphosate, birth control hormones, and other toxic chemicals. It’s arguably the worst anyone can drink. You can read more about fluoride here: https://truthab...

A great one and easiest to install is Hydroviv. Try it in the US, if you can. I would get a couple of extra filters to switch after a few months, if I were to go abroad. https://www.hydroviv.com/

They cost more but I Like the Berkey systems. I get the fluoride filter too.

don't get one of those jugs with a filter. the replacement filters themselves are very expensive. get one with active coal filters directly connected to the tab.
