this is true, even some car repairs (if you are at least aware of your own limitations, for instance I am going to get the mechanic to replace a noisy wheel bearing in my car as torquing bolts to 200 Nm (148 ft/lbs) could get sketchy on axle stands and there's a lot of other potential snags) - but I suspect for houses a rise in rental accommodation and lack of space is putting younger people off learning the skills..
