Books from Bob Jones University Press and Beka were well-loved at our house.
The Well-Trained Mind sets a very high standard (many homeschool resources do), but was helpful to my mother.
Teach them to read early, as soon as they're curious enough (it helps if they see you reading), and teach them to love it. Then see if you can keep ahead of them, getting the best books into your home.
Online stuff can help too, but I'm really glad very little of our stuff was on a computer.
