i never said it when i wrote this post, but the reason i was thinking about this was because i suspected 4x4x4 and higher rubik's cubes may exhibit this subgroup in the 24 off-center edge pieces... and I was write! the orientation of the pieces is completely fixed by the permutation, so there isn't really a wreath product :neofox_woozy:
