These migrating groups spoke an early form of Sanskrit.
They composed the Vedas, which are the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism. Because they recorded their history, prayers, and societal rules in Sanskrit, their culture spread across northern India, a region that ancient texts later referred to as Aryavarta (the land of the noble ones). Over time, their ancestral language evolved into the modern languages spoken across northern and central India today, including Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, and Gujarati.
