@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... Yeah I'd avoid Ubuntu at this point they're migrating everything to Rust.

I've used Arch and my experiences with it on KDE plasma have been solid.

arch-install makes getting a working install up and running pretty trivial. I'd say installing arch from the arch-install package was easier than getting a slackware install up and going. If you're gonna game with it though i'd recommend looking into CachyOS since it has more gaming oriented stuff setup out of the box than base arch does.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... Yeah 15 years ago Asus made excellent products now their modern products are trash. The last thing I bought from them was a ROG B550 AM4 motherboard over 5 years ago. After seeing how they handle customer service and warranties on their new stuff no way.

@nprofile1q...

Actually nevermind after a moment of raging and getting foaming mad. I figured it out.

Asus bundled the wi-fi driver with bluetooth.

Nothing in that details mentions anything of this driver being bundled. Asus documention is complete ass.

@nprofile1q... Sadly a USB network adapter is the only option. I found out this piece of shit Vivobook has a MediaTek MT7902 chipset that has 0 linux drivers or support. Also to add insult to injury Asus doesn't even have a fucking driver for it on it's support page. I installed windows 11 and it doesn't detect the card but the fucking BIOS doys. WTF ASUS. what a fucking garbage OEM.

@nprofile1q... I would but I don't got one on hand sadly.Sadly I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and put win 11 on this thing for now. I was only planning on using it as a Kodi / stream Link endpoint box. I can always add more ram when prices fall back to more sane levels. Only need another 8GB for it and 8GB modules shouldn't be too crazy to get as as everyone wants 16 and 32 right now

@nprofile1q... I tried to bit bazzite on it. Sadly it kernel panics when attempting to install. I tried CachyOS. CachyOS boots but it doesn't detect the wi-fi chip. To add insult to injury this piece of shit vivobook has no ethernet port and an online installer is required for the system. The wi-fi card is not detected in the kernel. I could use win10 but the e-cores on the 13 gen intel isn't optimized and it's better optimzed for win 11. But the machine only has 8GB of ram ( soldered ) with one expansion slot but it's DDR5 and scam altman made it so i can't cheaply upgrade

I remember why I hate modern Asus again.

Got an Asus Vivobook with a missing screen. 13th gen intel i5 with a 250gb ssd and 8gb of ddr5 ram. I think I'm gonna put bazzite linux on it and use it as a glorified steam link. better than having the machine be e-wasted.
