Behind the scenes, the devs were told "You only get one season" so they planned for that...

Then it was doing alright so producers said to make a second one. And it happened again.

Thinking they only had the season they were working on at that moment kinda killed the ability to plan something more extended, because if it ended up being true they would just be leaving cliffhangers.
