I use Start9 for both Bitcoin Knots and Nostr Relay. Hosting Bitcoin needs 16gb of RAM and plenty disk space, but Nostr relay should work on much less. If you're hosting just a relay, Start9 might be an overkill. Any linux variant with Docker should work.

I have Start9 running on VPC. You’ll need some disk space and 16gb of RAM if you want to use Bitcoin Core or Knots. It’s probably overkill just to host a nostr relay. I use it for both so it made sense.

If you want just the relay, a Pi or mini PC, or old laptop would work fine.

start9 OS has made life much easier for me.

Me too, I quite surprised how quickly I could create a private relay. Although I already had the infrastructure in place for self-hosting.
