"AI will solve the simple problems so humans can focus on the hard ones" is such a ridiculous fail at understanding anything about how humans acquire skills and knowledge.

Humans HAVE TO solve simple problems and then advanced problems in order to learn how to solve the really hard ones. This is not optional.

Good luck solving any difficult problems in the future with a generation of people who spent their entire education typing every problem into a chatbot's prompt box.

I still have no genuine use case for generative "AI". Not one.

Yes, I know what other people are using it for.

But none of those are things I would want to use it for, given its errors, (real) cost, side effects, ethics, and politics.

And this isn't an "oh, if they fix this one issue, I'd be onboard" kind of thing. They would have to fix ALL of them and they are all inherent to the product. None of them are even fixable.

This isn't just similar to 2008.

This is as if people watched the dramatized version of 2008 in The Big Short and decided to just do exactly that in real life.

When your employer explicitly un-invites you from an event during work hours because some more important people they want there are probably transphobic assholes and obviously it's easier to just not have the annoying tranny there.

I'm tasked with preparing a kind of hand-out document about "responsible use of AI" for patients..

Of course I have ethical issues with this because my own honest advise would be "don't", but that's probably not very useful in this case where the assumption is that people are already using these things. So I'm approaching this with a framework of harm reduction.

I'd be very interested in ideas for this, if anyone has maybe done a similar thing.
