Naturally, a few otakus on Twitter didn’t like that a loli was getting voice by a guy identifying as a woman. Instead of just ignoring the comments like a smart person, the VA clapped back by basically saying they are getting rid of all transphobes and replacing them, which prompted that original otaku to try and email Yostar/HyperGryph to fire them, all this then got one of those small news accounts to report on it, framing it like the VA attacked first. Got the rest of the AK community to come to the defense of the VA, even a few notable figures got in on it.

Didn’t really go anywhere after that and the VA is still voicing Rosmontis, but the VA did private their account. Basically none of this would’ve happened if the VA just shut the fuck up.

That whole trans VA drama that just happen the AK community is exactly why the community itself feels so bad to me overall, and another example of why gatekeeping is important.

In the case of AK, the game itself already has allegories for minorities, gays, and other similar things so it isn’t really surprising that it fostered the community it did. Hell, the game already got a JP trans man to voice an op years before. The reason that didn’t cause a problem is because the op in question Dagda, who is considered bad by the playerbase in terms of gameplay so not many people actually care about her.
