I am not a web designer. I was, at one point, a pretty good web admin. I know mostly server back end stuff from before things like NodeJS took off. I know some PHP and CSS and I am very comfortable with a WHM Cpanel server.

I say all of this to say, when I make websites I use templates. (Usually free, some paid) and I have recently started going to all of the sites I own and manage and working to ensure they don't have google fonts. This is just another way google is tracking who is doing what when they have no business doing so.

so I implore you web people of the world, DITCH THE GOOGLE FONTS!

@nprofile1q... I do feel like this is about how you use the LLM. I often find my self throwing something into my local llama to give me an ELI5 or what do these flags on this command do in combination.

But as someone who has Designed CTFs and watched someone fling through it without learning a damn thing, it can be hard to keep the faith.

When I took physics all those years ago my professor made us learn a slide rule before a calculator. If you skip over the basics and use a machine to do it..when the machine breaks or is wrong, who is gonna fix it and how?

@nprofile1q... i would.imagine.you can find a reputable 101/104 mechanical keyboard and find a key cap set that is close enough in style to match this...double shot caps are the way to go...something like this I found in about 2 min

@Justine Smithies DNS records are 1. Largely for public consumption. 2. Need very high uptime stats to be reachable by said public. While I am a huge privacy guy in general I find this is one place where bigger is better. I currently have all of my personal domains at Cloudflare. At work a lot of domains for work are hosted at both cloudflare and Akami.

Registrar can be whomever you are familiar with, doesn't charge crazy extra fees for services and doesn't get too pushy with add-ons.

@nprofile1q... I agree, I have a good friend who calls himself a Privacy Nihilist. All of his data is out there.. Which as an American is largely true.

There is also a sense of helplessness. when my Bank is selling my spending habits and the store is selling that data based on the card I use and phone company is selling my E911 location data.

these are non-optional tools of life and hard to feel in control. I think we need a cultural push to make some small legal changes to really get the ball rolling.
