The reason corporate platforms and algos are winning is because we do not boost enough. Lots of creators now know those places suck, but they get attention there. It's a trade-off. imo they'd give up a lot of that attention if it wasn't like 1/10th of the time that you liked something, you shared it. But instead let's say half. C'mon people.

Listening to #JDVance on #JRE, it's so obvious they are dancing and trying not to upset a #MAGA base that they somehow convinced to sometimes vote for some Republicans. Conspiracies, white trash culture, religious fundamentalism and how being a lying asshole is both repugnant but should now be tolerated for the attention it generates. This shit only works because the left doesn't return the crassness, especially to their face. Won't insult their wives etc.

choice of server is a talisman you wear publicly (domain name) that gives you access to our realm (interaction with others utilizing AP) and some protection (moderation). please diversify cause everybody wearing the same talisman makes the whole realm fragile. choice of talisman can limit your speech, but mostly just be nice. and you can switch. listen to but don't worry about recs coming from people who aren't handing out your talisman (admins).

It's not #DataMining, it's stalking. It's gathering every possible bit of data about us so they can abuse us later. Telling a woman to be careful where she goes etc instead of going after the guy would be victim blaming, yet we allow these companies to persist and talk about embracing privacy tools. Like it's our fault. We don't collectively rise up like we'd expect from a dad or brother. We no longer even expect good competitors to beat them in the market like capitalism tells us should happen.
Fedi outreach misses the point because most people don't publicly boost, favorite or reply.
On social media, they follow and scroll. Algos and influencers. Or they actually do social stuff privately on social media apps or in group chats. Maybe they joined a neighborhood or school club to stay in the loop.
It's a big disconnect between the weirdos like myself who mostly boost articles etc, the people who boost memes and chat in public only with people they like, and most other humans.
