I’ve noticed that I don’t want to zap podcasts who have sponsor spots in the middle of the show. I know it’s not fair or rational even - they need to make something for their work, but somehow...

My understanding is that the host-read spots are worth a LOT more to sponsors than pre-recorded commercials from others. On the Media just did a podcast talking about how they're adding those kinds of spots specifically because of the economic benefit.

I find that the skip-30 button usually is enough for me to get past ads without getting too annoyed these days.

I bet. But it puts me off listening to those podcasts. My hands are usually busy to click anything

Not the OP, but you did say, "I torrent music and films and use pirated software instead of paying." Seems like theft to me.

(The ethics of digital ownership and throwing money into a pot where the creators only get a tiny fraction's a separate thing, as well as the fact that not everything torrented would have been consumed otherwise.)
