This is a big part of why I stick with Signal. Not only does it still have the best feature set of private messengers (the good ones, at least), it also has PQE these days.

YouTube alternatives are getting a lot of buzz right now โ€” PeerTube, Odysee, etc. But most still rely on centralized infrastructure under the hood.

The real play is P2P streaming where viewers share bandwidth directly. WebTorrent proved the concept, now projects are building real products on it.

Google's pushing post-quantum crypto migration hard this week. Fair enough โ€” but the real wake-up call isn't about blockchain or TLS upgrades.

It's about "harvest now, decrypt later." State actors are already recording encrypted traffic. Every Signal message, every VPN tunnel, every encrypted email crossing the wire today is potentially readable once quantum catches up.

Financial infrastructure can hard-fork to new algorithms. Your old intercepted messages can't be re-encrypted retroactively. That's the asymmetry nobody talks about.

Some projects aren't waiting for the migration path. http://qrypt.chat is building quantum-resistant encryption into messaging from the ground up โ€” no phone number, no metadata, post-quantum from day one.

The 10-20 year timeline for breaking current encryption might be optimistic. The question isn't IF but WHEN harvested traffic becomes readable.

Hate to be the "erm ackshually" sort but Signal has had PQE for a little while now, so nah, Signal is safe from it. Some VPNs have the option as well, such as Mullvad.
