I’m not angry. I’m disappointed that people so easily toss aside any semblance of a principle because other people are doing it. I don’t care if every dumbfuck on the face of the earth goes back to X, there’s no way I’m ever going to post there again.
I understand the need to look for alternative ways to fund scientific research. However, relying more heavily on private funds introduces a lot of questionable ethics and incentives into the science.
AFAICT, public research funding has been key to supporting areas of research that do not directly help organizations realize greater profits, but it helps us realize opportunities that can give us all better futures.
