The distant red dot GLIMPSE-17775 is located behind galaxy cluster Abell S1063 and is magnified by gravitational lensing, allowing JWST NIRSpec to make detailed spectroscopic measurements.

The 40-plu spectral lines support the interpretation that GLIMPSE-17775 is a black hole star, not an ordinary star. Iron lines require a high-energy source to produce them, like a rapidly accreting black hole. X-rays are faint likely due to absorption by the dense gas cocoon.

The new version of Mastodon seems to resize images to fit a certain height limit.

I am sure there is a good reason for it, but it takes away from the richness of posts with multiple vertically stacked images like the one above. However, the full sized image can still be seen by clicking on the image.
