This will be sparodic when I have time and inspiration. Got the first guest lined up.

The masses are still there. The platforms are ubiquitous and a listener expection.
Some quite major artists have pulled their music from Spotify before and not moved the needle so indie artists are really up against it.

That's the story for 99% of Spotify artists. You can consider yourself lucky if you break even on the distributor subscription you have to pay for the privilege of having your music on the platforms.

But Wavlake is RSS, it still shows up on other platforms

Yes, Wavlake publish RSS to the index (which is great) but they don't show any external RSS content within the Wavlake app (which kinda sucks).
In this context though, it's mostly that Wavlake is a middleman so no direct payment to artists via RSS like @Amplified Tunes mentioned above.
I thought that might have been what your comment was about but I maybe I got it wrong? If so, sorry for the confusion.

Imho Wavlake is similar to a centralized platform.
You have to use their tools to make changes to an account/profile that they control.
They collect the boosts on your behalf before they forward to you (minus their cut) instead of true p2p.

Those are some of my cons but there are also plenty of pros to the way Wavlake do things 👍
