gm the censorship resistant social media nostr requires fully tunneled vpn to access from china because most of relays and clients are blocked by GFW.
and you're compromising your whole terminal's internet connection especially for the china based services.
so practically there's no way a user in china could frequently use nostr like they could access Twitter via eg, partially Sockes5 proxy, if they don't build their own relay and aggregation server.
ironically, standard vpns like Nordvpn is totally not accessible because they don't use any obfuscation for their WG alike tunnel and it's easily blocked.
Mullvad is great and accessible even tho the GFW is clearly easier to block its traffic.
thanks. my wife was encountered with such "criminal backlist" once for her international delivery lol
there's CCTV cameras everywhere in china because of reason 1/2 you've already known that big brother is watching everything, and more important reason 2/2 is that people want to and it works because the society is in a centralized trustless mode where no one is trusting another but a centralized source of power and arbitration.
thus it comes to a quite cyberpunk society- you don't trust any stranger by instinct you meet, but you feel very secure inside, because you know nobody is gonna fuck you around.
wife wired some usd from her Chinese bank to Revolut usd account, money confirmed out from the sender but it's been a week stuck in some process, no explanation no communication, it's fucking annoying.
Financial censorship is way much worse in EU than China.

yes i understand
speaking of how nationalism screws things up, in this way every civilian is (treated as) a potential undercover for the nation and there's no individual in the grand picture of fucking international wars
their civilians can't? didn't notice that. but it's a little weird, why EU banning Russian cicilians coming in anyway?
There are tons of Russians in the beach resorts of Hainan island, china.
I mean literary tons, never seem this before
i never left china in my 30+ years of life and i was basically growing up in the notion of Chinese people being low self esteem and accepting our inferiority compared to westerns. there's historical reasons behind.
now as the rapid growth of the country and people get access to modern lives, nationalism rises significantly among media and as the state is censoring everything that's not abiding the narrative of nation pride, it's shifting to another end of the balance. and overall, as you can probably observe, nationalism is dominating the world especially the US and China and many.
back to freedom of speech, Chinese people are basically introvert and terrible at public expressing, this character was shaped by thousands years of Confucianism and monarchy, people are not used to intellectual debate and rhetoric like what westerns have been educated since ancient Greek. but if we zoom out to human nature, people are not stupid, people always get their voices out and heard maybe not in a Socrates way, but in a more intangible and less dramatic way, and they will do anything to achieve it anyway, that's the resilience of introverted people. Well on the other hand people are always like The Crowd with their collective limits for sure.
So yeah, if I'm not an engineer I'd put it more in a anthropological way.
gm btw
I was thinking the same questions as you're asking here, and I had the same logic of "not being able to openly stand against the government" == "not freedom of speech" == "this country is a dictatorship shithole" == "only the western way of revolution/overturn regime can bring peace and prosperity to this country".
this mindset of mine didn't change until i personally stepped my feet outside of china.
I'm not good at explaining this kind of macro topics, like i said, it's very complexed, complicated and difficult for an American to understand why the China can prosper with such a shiity record of deMocrAcy and humAn riGhTs, and what in hell is happening to the majority of Chinese people who live under a dictatorship regime but still support ccp, are they really retarded or what.
my genuine advice dear anon, in case you really care, is go to china to see it for yourself. the good, the bad and the ugly will naturally unfold, in a unique style.
you are so brainwashed by the so called democracy that you probably think American stupid game of throne left va right is the way.
what have bitcoin taught you bro?
