My team at Factory’s growing (FTE, onsite in San Francisco). Come work with me to beef up 1) our security stance, and 2) our IT program. We’re growing rapidly and I want to get ahead of scaling issues. You’ll work directly with me, with agency to define and evolve your own role. Today we need hands-on-keyboard IC work. Want to grow that into a director-level role? This is the time to join.

I saw a guy wearing a nylon shirt and matching cargo shorts, both clean but faded from too many washes, a plain non-matching ball cap, black sneakers, about 30 tools clipped to his belt, and a couple of ID badges. He was a phone lineman, maybe an electrician, perhaps a fiber optic engineer, with a broken in outfit he’d worn to work every day for months.

The perfection nearly caught my breath. Guy dressed like that, there’s not a room in the country where a security guard wouldn’t buzz him in.

Coworker: I’m going to squeeze in 1 more quick prod deploy.

Me: If you push to prod after 5PM on a Friday, I’m going to make you on-call all weekend.

Coworker: Hehehe! *deploys*

Slackbot: Notice — Updated the on-call rotation.

Coworker: Haha, very funny. Can you put it back? Hello? Anyone?

Supreme Court says Rastafarian can’t sue prison officials over shorn dreadlocks - The Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/06/23/supreme-court-says-rastafarian-cant-sue-prison-officials-over-shorn-dreadlocks/

> The ruling is a departure from a series of decisions by the justices expanding religious freedoms in recent terms.

Hmm, what could possibly be different between this case and ones they supported? 🤔

Never, ever believe the “religious freedom” lie.

@nprofile1q... I was getting about 10 requests/s from AS132203, TENCENT-NET-AP-CN, 43.172.0.0/15, using fake user agents and hitting expensive URLs. The whole site had been sluggish for a little while but then immediately became (and stayed) responsive again.

I was trying to remove a Li-ion battery from a thing, and accidentally got its attention. Now the enspicified pillow is sitting inside a pyrex casserole dish on my concrete driveway, far away from anything else excitable.

Today, I learned.

Anyone who’s ever worked adjacent to IT knows better than to expect people to read the instructions. Doesn’t matter how clear they are, how publicly they’re announced, how urgent they’re explained to be.

Don’t ever, ever, design a critical process that involves people reading and following instructions. It’s dead on arrival.
