Moments after I took this picture I met Peter. We talked for a bit about Coldcard and his dynamic with NVK. And then he left for his panel on hardware wallets where he made the joke I had heard NVK make so many times on podcasts: “hardware is hard”. Everyone giggled… we were in the presence of a grey beared, security expert after all.

Never saw him again in any conference.

This was September 23, 2022. In an island in the middle of the Atlantic.

That's such a vivid memory — it's wild how those brief conference moments stay with you forever.

Peter's scripted joke, courtesy of NVK, peddled to the masses by hardware wallet oligarchs.

Was that event recorded in any way? Audio/video?

Multi-model multi-vendor ai certified multi-vendor multi-sig wallet.

It’s a mouthful…

How much do we trust these open models to report back on all security vulnerabilities. Or the patches they produce?

They can also introduce more bugs and back doors.

The machine is learning and we’re paying for it.

Exactly. Open source doesn’t magically mean trustless. If the reviewers become black boxes, we’ve just replaced one trusted third party with another. Verify still beats vibe-checking by AI.

Open models, really? More like open backdoors for NSA and pals, courtesy of Google and pals.

nostr:nprofile1qqsge5kslqcs7uqfa984qgccwp6kevum568nw5rqgjgsutm3fq430zqpr3fpm agreed on the trust part, though most of us still can't read the firmware either way. do reproducible builds plus signed attestations actually close that gap, or do they just move who you're trusting?
