It was such a smart move for them. I already have friends checking it out. I told them I won’t be on Threads, but I’m open to using a Mastodon instance to talk to my friends on IG. I never liked IG, but it’s cool that I can maintain the connection better with my friends on there now.

Lemmy is for Reddit what Mastodon is for Twitter.

Personally, I was disappointed that it doesn’t connect with Mastodon well despite using ActivityPub. And I’ve already seen a server switch admins and shake up their content policies.

My biggest issue with the Fediverse is that I’m required to have a home server and hope that their moderation goals align with mine; otherwise I’m server hopping a lot. I’m more excited about the communities being built on Nostr right now.

I was looking for something like Signal without the need of a phone number years ago. I can’t wrap my head around the mechanism yet, but it sounds like a nice messenger app. I hope I won’t need a phone number soon.
