The openSUSE provided vlc indeed does not have all the codecs enabled, because stupid codec patent/licensing issues.

I'll make a note to get that fixed (I frankly thought I had already fixed it)

@nprofile1q... Uh, not that it *might* matter to you, but vlc is actually there for a reason, as it's the only supported backed for phonon (which is KDE's multimedia subsystem, which provides things like desktop audio notifications)

That being said, was it vlc, or vlc-noX that was installed? you mostly shouldn't even notice vlc-noX is there, as it won't show up in the launcher or anything.

@nprofile1q... I don't have an HP device to test with, so I'm not much help. I've been using the "simple-scanner" flatpak with my Brother Multifunction, and it just "works" but YMMV
