That uncertainty gets in the way of the human part. You shouldn't have to wonder whether a quiet friend hasn't answered or simply never saw you. A little clarity there would make it easier to trust the connection, without needing to understand every relay.

(Artists or journalists known for running huge write-only accounts on the usual nasty social media platforms complaining about being overwhelmed by contemporary tools and using their old media channels and reach - radio broadcasting, TV or printed press - to suggest "digital detox" and while this generally doesn't seem all too bad an idea, it still very much also feels like both a lack of abilities to use "new" media in an educated and responsible way and a sheer struggle to stay relevant in an ever-changing society in which there simply are "others" who are more skilled in using tools of the time. Maybe this is a little too bitter but reading or hearing these sorts of statements always leaves a very bad gut feeling.)

(Problem I see with #nostr isn't understanding how accounts and keys work, or what the protocol is like. Painpoint seems making sense of relays and getting a stable setup that keeps touch with the people one is following.)

Yes. Being able to leave an app matters less if leaving means losing touch with your people. What part has been hardest for you: finding them again, seeing their posts, or knowing whether they can see yours?
