Built a small frontend-only dead man’s switch on Nostr using kind 0 and 1 events.

Built it with newcomers in mind. Wanted the UX to be clear without watering things down. Just a hobby project, but it got me thinking how future Nostr apps might need to find the balance between staying true to the protocol and guiding newcomers so they don’t give up.

@calle how do you approach making Nostr more accessible for new users, while maintaining the core terms and architecture without overwhelming them?

The Soapbox community is the BEST! Folks are building great ideas on Shakespeare just by talking to AI! 🎭 Everyone is bringing inspiring projects to the weekly Hivetalk sessions. Are you ready for ...

Shakespeare has been helpful. I’ve used it to brainstorm nostr ideas and get a better feel for the fundamentals. Just shipped a small hobby project and it helped me get a better perspective.

Asking it about certain NIP integrations, etc.

Built a small dead man’s switch on nostr. Frontend-only so browser has to be open.

Posts to 5 relays simultaneously if you don't check back in. Uses keys designed for one-time use and type 0 and type 1 nostr events.

I started with Codename Goose for the base files, then kept refining. Normal Claude chats were also a huge help.

First time building anything like this and just did it for fun. I’m sure there’s plenty that could be improved. Open source on Guthub.

Honestly, I never would’ve tried if it weren't for the community on nostr and being inspired by the builders here and the cool projects I’ve seen shipped.

Tagging a few folks whose work inspired me.

Nostr apps as a whole need to get better at facilitating relationships via content and user discovery. People want to engage and connect with each other. We want to build relationships. We want to sha...

Maybe it’s just me, but it does feel like discoverability on nostr is harder than other social media platforms. If someone doesn’t already have an established follower base, it can be hard to grow a community

Definitely a little discouraging for new comers, but still love it here

If Spark stablecoin payments gain traction, will routing fees for Lightning node operators match those from Taproot Asset transactions or standard Lightning payments, or is the fee model fundamentally different?

May be a dumb question but something I was thinking about.

Good question! I believe Taproot Assets would result in more revenue for LN nodes because 100% of payments would go over the LN whereas with Spark intra-Spark (entity) payments will not go over the LN. This assumes similar level of volume for both TA and Spark.
