@nprofile1q... Borrowing terminology from distributed denial of service, you could call LLMs a kind of amplification attack.

As I understand it, a big problem when it comes to scaling neural networks is that training is going to involve something like k-means, and as the number of dimensions goes up, all subspaces within the overall classification space are going to become asymptotically close to all other subspaces. This suggests to me a limit similar to Dennard Scaling. That's my informal understanding of it, anyway, based on previous experience with classifiers and old-school neural networks (which are still basically the same thing, transformer/attention or not).

It took a while for doctors to track down what was going wrong with him and it turns out is was leachate from a mercury amalgam filling that he had. He was lucky that they figured it out. That's the same root as the expression "mad as a hatter."

Then there's Minamata disease, where mercury comes up through the food chain and bioaccumulates at every level.

Nasty, nasty stuff.

@nprofile1q... I was just looking up a different Lizard the other day. In Cornwall. ISRT they were in the Zone of Totality (eclipse) some years back. I was thinking of going, but in the end I never did. I kind of regret it, so I'm going to completely misread "lizard forgives" as a way of absolving myself of that regret.
