@nprofile1q... in a way? But like, even within a framework of math, there are stuff you may want to toy around. Like, say with bridges, you might want to have a go at designing some kind of new bridge type - you're still working within the math, and seeing whether you can make your idea work, even if in some hypothetical scenario or not. Like, that's still a project, even if it doesn't enter into the physical world in any way, and I would very much count that.

@nprofile1q... so the resoure requirements is is a big part why I say that I lean towards it being the case and not it outright being the case. Software is wonderful in that you need almost no resources to get started with it, while for many other engineering disciplines that's far from being the case.

But still, even if it's not "to completion", I think that "toy projects" are a good indicator of somebody willing to like, actually engineer stuff well and be proud of their work, vs somebody who "just does the job".

If you haven't done any software developing purely for fun and no other reason, you're not fit to be a software engineer

Conversely, if you have created software stuff purely for fun, you can become a software engineer

@Haelwenn /ัะปะฒัะฝ/ :triskell: @(eval 'Toast) see the recently public domained slug font rendering algorthm (was patented grrrrr but author released it after a bit), can render arbitrary bezier-polygons (so most fonts) on a GPU - was made for games and other 3d things but should work decently for stuff like this as well (tho questionable how worth it is)

Is there an online marketplace for renting roof space for antennas, or is this a "cold-send an email asking for a quote" type of market?
Ignas Kiela profile picture
@nprofile1q... depends tbh, if you see an antenna mast on the roof, chances are that it's already rented out by some larger "antena mast space" provider and you'd get sent there, and they probably already have a pricing list online. But for otherwise random houses, cold sending it is I guess. My grandma has free internet from a deal they made with the provider that has an antenna on their roof (it's only a 2 story house, but with a flat roof and in convenient location)
