@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... Well, if we don't remind the world that we exist, people will ignore us and our needs. And if people only get information about autism from RFKjr, they'll think we're all incompetent and incapable of living worthwhile lives. It's important that we show the world that we are actually people with rich lives who deserve all the consideration and respect other people get, and that we show other autistic people there's a way to live that isn't some nightmare freak show. And we have to share our struggles and coping strategies and neurodivergent wisdom with our fellow autistic folk, so they can learn how to do better in a world that demands we pretend we're just like allistic people so as not to bother anyone with our existence. Sorry if us just being ourselves annoys you, but your comfort is not our priority. And why can't I get to be cute and quirky sometimes? Does everything about my life have to be a tragedy? Would you be less annoyed at me if my life was entirely horrible, instead of just impossible to deal with because everyone demands I stop being autistic before they'll cut me any slack?

@nprofile1q... This is one of the most fascinating aspects of autism to me. I'd love to understand the neurology and socialization behind that need for justice and fairness. Maybe that's just the reasonable way to see things, but NTs are so obsessed with social status that they feel justice is secondary to getting along with people who can affect your social standing.

I always think of that psych study that said autistic people were deficient because we were TOO ethical, because we wouldn't cheat even if it would benefit us and we knew we would get away with it. They said that means we aren't capable of acting immorally to benefit ourselves, and because that's not how NTs act it's an impairment, like that's an actual problem you should fix.

One thing it took me getting used to about the autistic community was how commonly folks think that NT society is fundamentally dishonest and everyone is lying all the time, mostly for the sake of their social status, but also because it's assumed everyone else is lying about everything too. From job interviews where everyone is expected to lie so everything you say is assumed to be a lie, to empty "let's grab coffee soon" promises that never materialize, NT society is all about pretense and faking it until making it. Everything is about keeping up appearances, and that's not compatible with justice or even fairness.

I think I've figured out why there are so many more British youtubers with autism channels than Americans. They have public healthcare, so these folks can afford to live off of youtube earnings. Free, universal healthcare would make so many things possible. It's hard to imagine what we could accomplish as a society if we just took care of people.

Writing a post on a Discourse-based forum for the first time in years and I just cannot understand how bad the UX is after all these years. TONS of popups nagging me to do stuff, and my post is given...

@nprofile1q... I believe the shift from async comms with durable conversations on forums to ephemeral conversations in chat rooms is an intentional attack on institutional memory by forces of darkness that want to be able to rewrite history to their liking.
