If you're having trouble with whatever you bought, that twist and set repair flange is is great for getting a good compression fit without relying too heavily on the floor mounting, your new flange becomes one with the old pipe pretty much which makes it really solid.

Find a flange repair kit that shoves down snug into that old pipe.
