I activated a new park for POTA yesterday. Somehow I can't do iambic after like 6 months off, but I was able to do the activation with a straight key without any issues.

I have an ARRL log book that I got when I started last year and I want to finish filling this one and save it, but I'm not sure about doing more.

It was really nice when I was starting and figuring out software choices, but now I'm not sure if I will ever look at them again lol

I've been thinking about creating a sort of data bus for ham radio applicatoins and data plumbing and considering using MQTT. My ideas so far:

Data Sources:

- flrig/fldigi XMLRPC
- WSJT-X UDP
- PskReporter MQTT
- POTA Spots???

Applications:

- log entry client
- propagation monitoring
- spotting/hunting interface
- multi-modal grid tracker
- timeseries exporter

Benefits of MQTT:

- trivial logging to JSONL
- multiple consumers
- clients can publish derived data

Thoughts?

I'm glad to see someone else looking at MQTT. The MMDVM project has been working on MQTT for logging and display interaction. Both Pi-Star and WPSD are in the process of implementing MQTT for their dashboards as well. This will be demonstrated at Hamvention 2026. We are very excited about the possi...

I’m running a 29ft of wire taped up along the walls of my bedroom with a 9:1 unun I built and a common mode choke.

I could definitely do a lot better than this, but I don’t really have any outdoor options at home and I’m definitely getting on the air. I think a lot of people really overcomplicate this hobby.

I think I have learned today that contest CW is not for me. For some reason I thought doing POTA meant I would like it, but POTA feels extremely laid back in comparison. I actually enjoyed the SSB for intrastate QSOs which was fun I don’t normally do phone anymore.

Okay, baby steps still but I just hunted a station in Colorado on 20M CW with the wire taped to my apartment wall so we're officially operating lol

Seeing how well the J-Pole performs in my apartment makes me really want to try 2M FT8 again, even if it's still just on a 5W Quansheng lol
