Cornell University is banning fraternity house parties for the rest of the academic year amid outrage over its handling of a female student’s reported sexual assault at a frat house in 2024. The restrictions cover more than 20 active fraternities, with President Michael Kotlikoff warning that any chapter violating the ban faces immediate emergency suspension. The university is also seeking to bring in independent New York State Police investigators to examine campus sexual assault allegations. Kotlikoff says the ban will give Cornell time to determine “whether and how” fraternity life can safely continue.

Hassan Kariem, a 42-year-old Atlanta teacher, has been identified as the man who fell to his death from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags while riding with his son. His wife and daughter reportedly witnessed the incident from the ground. Witnesses said Kariem came out of his seat, struck another rider and was hit by the coaster before falling onto the roof of a haunted attraction. Goliath, Georgia’s tallest roller coaster, reaches speeds of 70 mph. Six Flags reportedly shut down nine similar rides nationwide following the incident.
