The sea is calm, but that wooden breakwater looks like it has seen some rough weather in its time.

Das Meer ist ruhig, aber dieser hölzerne Wellenbrecher sieht aus, als hätte er schon einige Stürme überstanden.

On Saturday, we went to Mauritshuis in Den Haag to see the wonderful paintings there. As in this photo, we saw several high-rise buildings in Holland with steep, pitched roofs. It's a style I don't think I've seen elsewhere, and I rather like it.

I went to visit Coleton Fishacre at the weekend. It has a lovely, sub-tropical garden in a steep valley by the sea. At this time of year, everything looks a treat.

Forsythia is named after William Forsyth (1737–1804), a Scottish botanist who was a royal head gardener and founding member of the Royal Horticultural Society. It is sometimes called the 'Easter tree' because it blooms at the right time of year. Ours has been putting on a grand show this spring.

Down here Forsythia has a peak burst of flowering in Spring, before it leafs out, and...
