holy shit I got a free NordVPN subscription and their macOS client installs an endpoint kernel extension that just hangs around after an uninstall. There was a constant com.nordvpn.macos.Shield process.

I had to boot into recovery and disable SIP to get rid of it. Part of that is on macOS that it allows to install extensions but systemextensionsctl can't uninstall them.

But still, this is malware-grade behavior; especially given how sketch they are in general.

my best explanation why seemingly all young people smoke now is that they’ve never been to a restaurant full of smokers or a train car or an airplane or a bar. Never have all their clothes smell like shit after a night out. That makes it seem more like a cute counter-culture rebellion.

And of course the fucking vaping -> cigarettes pipeline (because it’s cheaper).

I really thought my generation killed smoking but walking past schools nowadays is heartbreaking.

Coming back from an e-bike tour, I wonder how many people bounced off bicycles not because it’s too much effort, but because modern saddles are so incredibly uncomfortable to a normie and the default answer by cyclists is “git gud” while bad-mouthing saddles they find comfortable (wide and soft).

Some on the tour had to put their jackets on their seats and others literally said they’re never sitting down on a bicycle ever again, because this keeps happening to them.

no matter how you feel about llms, pls stop quoting Zitron as a proof for anything

I swear I'm not trying to be a jerk but I once again can't help myself to think that the MkDocs/ProperDocs/Zensical ecosystem just doesn't care about API docs?

Topic du jour: an equivalent of `.. versionadded` / `.. versionchanged`. Most projects I've checked just… don’t do it at all and Pydantic seems to have hand-rolled something.

Meanwhile Zensical tells me to use mkdocstrings while mkdocstrings tells me it's in "maintenance mode" which usually is code for “not maintained”. 🤪 1/2

@nprofile1q... how many ppl have already told you about https://blip.net ? 😇 (always maxes out my pipe)

Heh, I missed this because I don't care about the A Song of Ice and Fire books anymore, but I guess it's official:

> In December 2024, he stated that he might never finish [The Winds of Winter] or book series, but did reaffirm that it was still a priority for him[…].

Reminds me of how my privacy is apparently the priority to everyone on the web.
