Pablo’s keynote might be one of the most important FOSS maintainer zeitgeist time capsules for 2026. Even leaving aside that he didn’t try to sell us AI in Spanish, I wish it would’ve opened the conference as a reality check for the bubble-affected.

The #PyConUS audience is too kind to boo people off the stage Gloria Caulfield-style and the stage setup makes it difficult to see the audience eye rolling; so I’m glad we have something to point the wide-eyed to.

Nobody expects the Spanish Poetry.

One of the hardest yet most important lessons one learns over & over in life is that when it comes to communities (regardless of their size) there’s NO correlation between the value of service provided and the gratefulness expressed.

You should never do or sacrifice anything if you wouldn’t be OK with nobody noticing or thanking you for it.

Humans are fickle, humans are distractible, it’s not always obvious what’s important—except in hindsight when it’s too late. Don’t give more than you have.

What really grinds my gears is how a whole industry chose to forget the 101 of ops security. This is not an “AI" problem, this is gross negligence by cloud providers like Raleway pretending "having evals" is an acceptable defense against catastrophic data loss & users having production tokens of any kind lying around such that an attacker (or misguided agent) can find it.

I fear we’re watching multiple generations to give up any kind of ambition to improve at whatever craft can be automated mediocrely by LLMs.

Repeatedly pulling the prompt lever will never end in excellence. ESPECIALLY if the boosters are right, “prompting” is not a long-term valuable skill.

LLMs _can_ be used as skill multipliers but it’s up to YOU whether you choose to use them as a leverage for your own capabilities or whether you deskill yourself into a helpless slop slinger.
