Guess I overreacted a bit about Apple working with the Aus gov to restrict adult content. Although the block against adult content was completely bypassing any VPN or proxy, but it may just have been a localized blocklist of known domains. And the actual web history wasn't phoning home. I did my best to block every known Apple endpoint possible, so there was zero egress activity, and some requests to select domains that have the same initials as the Philippines, were nuked. This lead me to believe the blocklist had to be local, saved within iOS/macOS itself. Either way, it is still a scary precedent as it means Apple in conjunction with any government can now blackhole access to any domain they want, without any way to side-step the block. VPNs and proxies are effectively even more pointless with Apple products than they already were. Sad.

Yea, not wrong at all. The silver lining haha… it has absolutely made Nymchat a lot more impenetrable now, infrastructurely. As I’ve spent the past few days hardening things. The only casualty here are the users, as it feels like many have stopped posting since they get hit with insults repeatedly. The amount of real people that were using it has declined as a result.

Well, I suppose the real question you'll have to answer is "what's the point?" — what exactly is permissionless, anonymous, globally relayed chat good for? For BT meshing, I can see a potential use case, but that's because it's hyperlocal and therefore much more difficult to spam. And I suppose ...

I do have a suspicion of who it is. Do you remember the first big spam attack? That person went on to make their own client, they would spam the link with their bot. He’s been obsessed with Nymchat and annoying its users. A few days prior he drops into the Nymchat channel and asks if I’m going to implement WoT because he wants to. And asks how will I stop spam bots if I don’t. Then no joke a day later the spam bots start. So, either incredibly coincidental, or it’s that person. And many of the spam bots are using my name and many active Nymchat users.
