@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... I'm still really gutted I won't get to implement Nooblog and enough fun this term: was really looking forward to giving a talk this week that went from "hey, aren't these all just LVars?" to "baby elaborator (btw the scheduler's a zipper, maybe it can be an AST-shaped zipper, right Conor?)"

The big blob of state thing's using "hey, we could stick all these existentials at the top and track dependency another way!" as footgun leverage to do other daft things.

@nprofile1q... The existence of it will certainly make it easier to file a pair of class action suits though - one from web users in general who are having work generated for them, one for anybody running a server being DDoSed by them.

In that regard, Anubis generates evidence of clear harm to users and that servers are having to adopt previously-unheard-of measures to keep their web sites running - and especially that self-hosting is being slowly rendered unviable which is a massive form of harm.

And we don't have to try it just in the US, either.

@nprofile1q... I am very pointedly not designing ways of handling that outside a clause's guard in Nooblog for a damn reason, but I can absolutely understand why Sweeney might not be up to the state of the art in logic programming and related languages!

And he deserves some credit for UnrealScript as it was in the late 90s, too: for that point in time it had some damn nice domain-specific features some of which I've not seen covered from a PL perspective even now.

@nprofile1q... It's the delimiter in delimited continuations - the name comes from the REPL prompt. Developing a REPL inside a REPL when you've got undelimited continuations (call/cc etc) will cause object/meta confusion - you get at bits of the REPL you're using to develop the REPL you're working on. Eventually that'll make you reinvent delimited continuations.
