I recently stumbled upon a copy of Electronics Today from 1992. It carried a largely off topic article about the environment and the car. It is pretty interesting what it predicts and what it doesn't. Example: it stops short of predicting the EV revolution. BUT it does seem to expect a widespread vehicle de-carbonisation earlier than it actually really started to happen. I'll paste it here in full because why not. 1/2

@nprofile1q... This is exactly why I'm interested in them. I have some kinda crappy not-that-good LEDs on my front fence. They have started failing. They're low voltage, but clearly not great quality. I wanted low voltage as I didn't want mains on a (near) public place.
Interesting you'd recommend it. The design of some 230VAC GU10 fixtures is very attractive too. I was pondering if the higher current might cause issues?

So it turns out you can buy 12V GU10 LED bulbs.
I can't think of any way that could massively go wrong.

I am sorry but the usability of this thing is just utter fucking garbage compared to the old βtwiddly knob, with a meter that shows SWRβ MFJ original.
The manual is fucking trash also. Literally 99% of folk who buy these all they will want is an SWR plot, probably one one of no more than 15 bands.

To be clear, with ENORMOUS amounts of perseverance and patience, it is rare that we can't fix a customer's issue and make it work for them.

They are entitled, as any commercial company is, to withdraw a product from sale with adequate notice, and they have given LOADS of notice.
I do feel the regulator ought to have stepped in, though, and really analysed the problem more fully, and perhaps mandated some stuff. I'm not really sure what, though.
All in all, to repeat, I don't think the "practical market" (what is available, now, in reality) was really ready for the withdrawal of landlines for calls.
